The Ruchnoy Pulemyot Degtyaryova (Degtyaryov Light Machine gun) is a light machine gun that appears in Survarium.

Background

Developed in 1943 by Vasily Degtyaryov, the RPD was designed to use the new intermediate 7.62x39mm M43 cartridge (of AK-47 fame) and intended to replace the older and heavier DP machine gun. Although long since replaced by Kalashnikov-pattern weapons such as the RPK and PK machine guns, it continues to see use in African and Asian regions.

Overview

In Survarium, the RPD is a medium-tier machine gun available at the fourth Renaissance Army rank, "First Sergeant", and likely one of the first LMGs that survivors will acquire. As one would expect, its most notable feature is its magazine capacity of 100 rounds, which is significantly higher than any other weapon category.

Compared to assault rifles it features low damage but high armor penetration and has surprisingly good first shot accuracy, comparable with some battle rifles. However, it is extremely heavy (one of the heaviest weapons in Survarium), has a relatively lengthy reload time and a slow rate of fire, giving it a low damage per second compared to weapons of a similar level.
