IMPORTANT
Upgrading and modifiers: To get the most out of your items you will need a lot of currency to get the modifiers you want. If you choose to modify a blue item you can only change that modifier and not the new ones you get with upgrading the item. Example: You have a blue mosin rifle with +3% damage. Deciding you want to change this you will get the option between 3 new modifiers, these are can range in amount and type. You choose the +5% damage modifier. Now you upgrade the mosin and get a green version. You will still have the +5% damage but you will also get a new random modifier. This new random modifier can NOT be changed since you already altered the previous version(blue).
Edit: As of version 0.43 any modifier can be changed without any timer (as in previous versions). You can change any modifier at any time for a fee of spare parts, and you will be offered 1 replacement modifier, with two additional modifiers to choose from which cost gold.
IMPORTANT
Some clothes such as gloves might come with modifiers by default, those are shown with a black border. You can't stack modifiers on the same item. So if your item has a default modifier you will not be able to get another of the same type. Nor can you change the default modifiers.
Edit: As of version 0.28b Black pre-applied modifiers that are default bound to an item can be stacked with the same modifier for the same item. The increased value of Permanent pre-bound modifier + New modifier gives an additive value (AKA 2% reload speed gloves (white item with modifier) + 10% reload speed modifier = 12% reload speed gloves)

- White : no modifier
- Blue : 1 Modifier
- Green : 2 Modifiers
- Orange : 3 Modifiers (some Gold items have more than 3 Mods, they are relics from old versions of the game and have not been removed by the Devs)
- Gold : 3 Modifiers, Special premium item
Chance for success[]
When you try to upgrade a blue or green item with an item that is of a lower rarity rating you encounter the chance to lose your modification (failure).

Modifiers[]
Can be changed with rubles and gold. If you are using rubles modifiers can only be changed every 6 hours but with gold you can change it with no time limit. You can see the timer in the bottom right in the inventory menu, where it says "Modification". If you have not modified the item, it will just say modification.
